2013 Vern Cowles Prize for a Trinity of Poems

For 2014 and subsequent years, the Vern Cowles Prize will be for a chapbook (formerly Copperdome Chapbook), endowed by writer Dixon Hearne in honor of Vern Cowles, who loved poetry. See the guidelines here.

About the contest:

 

We're searching for the best three contemporary poems. They need not be related in theme or style.

 

Winner receives an award of $1,000 and featured publication in The Cape Rock poetry journal, now celebrating its 48th year of publication.


The final manuscript will be chosen by Susan Swartwout, publisher of Southeast Missouri State University Press, published poet, and editor of The Cape Rock poetry journal.

 

Winner will be announced September 2013.

 

 

 

Guidelines:

 

•  Work must not be previously published.

 

•  Send 3 poems of 120 lines or less each, with no identifying name on the pages, and a separate cover sheet with the poems' titles, author's name, address, and phone number. 

    

•  No e-submissions are accepted.

 

•  Send SASE for notification of results; all manuscripts will be recycled.

 

•  Enclose a $20 reading fee, which will include a copy of the issue of The Cape Rock in which the winning story appears.

 

    Failure to comply with these guidelines for a blind judging will result in disqualification from the contest.
