573-986-6191 The counseling staff,
Licensed Professional Counselors, are experienced in responding to a variety of
personal and social issues as well as crisis intervention. Referrals are made to
appropriate psychiatric services or other specialists as needed.
Counseling Process
Effective counseling is an active
process that requires open and honest communication between client and
counselor. Together, the client and counselor assess the client's concerns and
make decisions for the most appropriate direction for support and/or change.

Educational Resources
Brochures, educational information,
and video tapes that address the problems students may experience are also
available at University Counseling Services. Examples of various topics
include: Stress, Eating Disorders, AIDS, Procrastination, Substance Abuse,
Sexual Abuse, Acquaintance Rape, and Sexuality. The materials are available
for personal use or for class presentations.

Workshops/Therapy
Groups
Each semester a variety of Personal
Development Workshops are offered to provide education and group support for
student concerns. Intensive therapy groups are offered, as needed, each
semester. Therapy groups may require a pre-group interview.
Cost
Individual counseling is provided at
to actively enrolled students. A small fee may be charged for
testing services or group services.
Appointments
To make an appointment at University Counseling
Services, students can call or stop by the UCS to schedule
an intake appointment. During that first appointment, the counselor and the
client will discuss and clarify the client's counseling needs.
