Hello everyone! I am Tyler Stevens,
the new president of the Alphi Phi chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma. This
year I have many goals, some of which have already been met and
exceeded. I want to start off by giving a special thanks to the
alumni that participated in the first ever alumni banquet. It was a
great success and we hope to keep this tradition alive and thriving
in the years to come. This past December we completed the transition
of exec boards, the new officers for 2007 are as follows;
President: Tyler Stevens
Vice President: Joe Woods
Programs: Jason Gramlich
Membership: Brian McGeehon
Finance: Eneas Bitri
Awards
I want to keep everyone updated on our goals and elaborate on how we
are doing in the current year. Thus far the semester has been great.
We started the year off with an award from nationals, the Robert
Nagel Jones charitable projects award, in which every member of Sig
Tau had to complete 20 hours of community service. Some of the
events included the city of rose’s music festival, highway cleanup,
greek week community service, project prom, and various other
activities.
Recruitment goals
Recruitment goals for 2007 are 20 new members. We currently have 3
pledges so for the fall we are hoping to initiate at least 17
people. Our active rooster has been declining in the past few
semesters, but with the upcoming rush in fall we would like to
obtain a 50 member chapter. Even though I want Sig Tau to grow, I
still want to maintain the traditions of the Alpha Phi chapter by
having a small, close-knit brotherhood.
NEW House!
Recently, Alpha Phi has obtained a new chapter house at 325 N.
Pacific Street. The exec board and one active member will occupy the
house. It is located just two houses down from the current chapter
house at 333 N. Pacific Street. 325 Pacific is newly renovated from
top to bottom, inside and out. There are six bedrooms, a spacious
basement and an open backyard. One of the reasons for us obtaining
this new house is so the alumni can have a house to come back to
that is respectable and clean. Hopefully it will be a reason for the
alumni to stop by and get to know some of the active members. I
truly believe that this house is a going to be a great chapter house
for years to come. Again, we appreciate the alumni support at the
banquet for purchasing raffle tickets and giving donations to help
us reach our goal of $1800 for the 325 Pacific deposit. The
acquisition of this house couldn’t have been done without you.
Help Wanted
Some immediate plans for the house is the installation of a flag
pole to hang the Sig Tau flag that Wayne Dunker has so graciously
purchased for us. If anyone knows where we could acquire a 40’ flag
pole, we would greatly appreciate your help. We are also looking for
the services of a woodworker to build a wooden crest for the new
chapter house. We still have the original crest hanging in 333
Pacific, but we would like to have one in each house. If anyone has
any information on either issue they can contact Tyler Stevens at
573.513.5053 or Jeff Wehner at 573.579.2777, again we appreciate any
help.
In closing, we are excited about the upcoming year and always
welcome any alumni suggestions or support. I want to encourage all
alumni to at least try and make it to one event this year. It is
always a great time; the chapter understands that most of you have
families and jobs that are hard to get away from. That is why we are
working hard on getting a calendar posted on the website for the
next semester so you can plan a trip to Cape Girardeau. We are
always excepting donations for the improvement of the chapter. We
have set up an account for the new crest and flagpole. I understand
that when you donate you want to see your money in action. You can
send these donations to 333 N. Pacific Street Cape Girardeau, MO
63701, until July1st then you will need to send them to 325 Pacific
Street Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
