About Sigma Chi Fraternity
The fundamental purpose
of the Sigma Chi Fraternity is to cultivate
an appreciation of and commitment to the
ideals of friendship, justice and learning
within our membership. These ideals have
been at the heart of Sigma Chi since its
founding by seven men at Miami University
in Oxford, Ohio, in 1855.
We achieve these ideals
through the practice of character qualities
embodied in our Ritual, which is a secret
document that defines our formal traditions
and is the common bond between our members.
Although this vision of Sigma Chi is based
upon the notion of shared ideals, our founders
believed that true brotherhood would thrive
best among men of different temperaments,
talents and convictions.
Our guiding principles,
unchanged for over 150 years, continue to
define the essence of Sigma Chi. Sigma Chi
is known for building leaders, and our members
have a reputation of putting Character-in-Action™
to change their communities.
