Why Join?

Sigma Alpha Iota is an organization meant to promote interaction among those sharing a commitment to music. Members of SAI are active in all areas of campus music and campus life and often work closely with faculty, administration, campus and community groups, music professionals and patrons.
In addition to personal encouragement and support, members may receive scholarships, loans and awards in many areas and levels of music-related study. Sigma Alpha Iota also provides the opportunity to join alumnae chapters, providing a lifetime of fraternity contact.

 

Requirements for College Students
  • Completion of or enrollment in at least one credit hour of music courses
  • Have completed at least one semester at Southeast Missouri State
  • Achievement of a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Have recommendation from a member of the music school's faculty (the VP Membership will take care of this or help you to take care of this).
  • Demonstration of a sincere interest in and love for music.
  • Performance in a musicale.
  • Completion of a service project.
  • Completion of a fund-raiser (profit earned will go towards each MIT's dues and fees).
  • Attendance at all MIT meetings (exceptions approved by the chapter or the VP Membership).
  • Meet all financial obligations.
  • Meet any other (reasonable) requirements of the VP Membership, possibly including weekly quizzes.
  • Pass the national membership exam.
Requirements for Non-Student Members
  • Invitation by a college chapter to join their membership.
  • Sufficient training to earn a living in a music profession and be active in that profession.
  • Approval by the SAI National President in consultation with the Province Officer.
  • Non-student members automatically assumes alumnae status at the end of the fraternity year in which she is initiated.
     

 

Fee's for 2006-2007

A $50 Member-in-Training fee includes your new manual for members, the SAI Songbook and the Centennial Songbook supplement.
The $200 Collegiate Initiation fee includes a 10k gold regulation badge (semi-crown pearls), first year national dues, membership card and certificate.

National dues after your first year are only $25 a year.

Delta Epsilon chapter dues are only $75 dollars a year.

As you see to the right, SAI is much more affordable than traditional sororities, which cost $400-$800+ a year, often not including their required housing costs. Our chapter also helps our members by offering a payment plan. E-mail the VP Membership for details.

First Year Expenses
     $50 MIT fee
+   $200 Collegiate fee
+   $75 Chapter dues (includes 2 semesters; $37.50 if initiated in the spring semester)

     $25 National dues (includes 2 semesters)
