ResNet Wired Connection
For connection
to the Residential Network:
· Open Internet Explorer
· Follow ResNet connection
instructions on the ResNet web page
*If your web
browser does not redirect you to the ResNet web page, work
through these troubleshooting processes
Troubleshooting
Follow each of
the processes below
until your Internet
connection has been established:
Process 1:
Registration page failure:
· If an error message displays,
click in the address bar and type
splat.semo.edu, press Enter.
The web page may take a few moments to load, so be patient
· If the ResNet Registration page is displayed, type in your
SE Key and password, read the policies, then click the
I Accept button at the bottom of the page
· If your connection fails, follow process 2
· Open Internet Explorer
· Click on
Tools
> Internet
Options
· Click on the
Connections tab
· Click
LAN Settings
· Make sure that the only thing
checked is the
Automatically detect settings.
Remove all other check marks and click
OK
· Type
splat.semo.edu in the address bar, press
Enter
· If the ResNet Registration page is displayed, type in your
SE Key and password, read the policies, then click the
I Accept button at the bottom of the page
· If connection fails, follow process 3
Process 3: Check IP address:
For Windows XP:
· Click
Start, click
Run, type
CMD, and click
OK
For Windows
Vista & Windows 7:
· Go to
Start, type
CMD
in search box, right click
CMD
in the search results and choose
Run as administrator. Click
Continue
on User Account Control pop-up (if applicable)
· In the black window, type
ipconfig
and press
Enter
· This will display your IP
address. Your IP
address should start with “150.201.x.x” (i.e. 150.201.54.100)
· If your IP address does not
start with “150.201” you need to release and renew the IP
address: type
ipconfig /release and press
Enter
then type
ipconfig /renew and press
Enter
· Verify that your IP address
begins with “150.201.”
· Open Internet Explorer, type
splat.semo.edu in the address bar, and press
Enter
· If the ResNet Registration
page is displayed, type in your SE Key and password, read the
policies, then click the
I Accept
button at the bottom of the page
· If your connection fails,
follow process 4
Process 4:
Alternate ethernet cable:
Connect a
different ethernet cable to your computer and LAN drop.
Restart your computer.
Should the 2nd ethernet cable work, then it is
a problem with your original ethernet cable.
If connection fails, follow process 5.
Process 5:
Alternate computer:
Connect a
different computer to your LAN drop, if available.
Should the 2nd computer connect to the
Internet, then it is a problem with your computer and not the
LAN drop.
NOTE:
If registration appears to be
successful, but Internet Explorer keeps redirecting to the
registration page, clear out the browser cache. To do this:
· Open Internet Explorer
· Click on
Tools,
Internet Options
On the
General tab, find and choose the options to delete temporary
internet files and clear history. Close Internet Explorer. When
you re-open Internet Explorer, it should open to your homepage.
