Troubleshooting

Follow each of the processes below until your Internet connection has been established:

Process 1: Registration page failure:

If an error message displays, click in the address bar and type splat.semo.edu, press Enter.  The web page may take a few moments to load, so be patient

If the ResNet Registration page is displayed, type in your SE Key and password, read the policies, then click the I Accept button at the bottom of the page

If your connection fails, follow process 2

Process 2:  Check LAN settings:

 Open Internet Explorer

Click on Tools > Internet Options

 Click on the Connections tab

 Click LAN Settings

Make sure that the only thing checked is the Automatically detect settings.  Remove all other check marks and click OK

Type splat.semo.edu in the address bar, press Enter

If the ResNet Registration page is displayed, type in your SE Key and password, read the policies, then click the I Accept button at the bottom of the page

If connection fails, follow process 3

Process 3: Check IP address:

For Windows XP:

Click Start, click Run, type CMD, and click OK

For Windows Vista & Windows 7:

Go to Start, type CMD in search box, right click CMD in the search results and choose Run as administrator.  Click Continue on User Account Control pop-up (if applicable)

In the black window, type ipconfig and press Enter

This will display your IP address.  Your IP address should start with “150.201.x.x” (i.e. 150.201.54.100)

If your IP address does not start with “150.201” you need to release and renew the IP address:  type  ipconfig /release and press Enter then type   ipconfig /renew and press Enter

Verify that your IP address begins with “150.201.”

Open Internet Explorer, type splat.semo.edu in the address bar, and press Enter

If the ResNet Registration page is displayed, type in your SE Key and password, read the policies, then click the I Accept button at the bottom of the page

If your connection fails, follow process 4

Process 4: Alternate ethernet cable:

Connect a different ethernet cable to your computer and LAN drop.  Restart your computer.  Should the 2nd ethernet cable work, then it is a problem with your original ethernet cable.  If connection fails, follow process 5.

Process 5: Alternate computer:

Connect a different computer to your LAN drop, if available.  Should the 2nd computer connect to the Internet, then it is a problem with your computer and not the LAN drop.

NOTE: If registration appears to be successful, but Internet Explorer keeps redirecting to the registration page, clear out the browser cache. To do this:

 Open Internet Explorer

 Click on Tools, Internet Options

On the General tab, find and choose the options to delete temporary internet files and clear history. Close Internet Explorer. When you re-open Internet Explorer, it should open to your homepage.

If you are still experiencing problems, report the problem, the LAN drop number, and room number to the IT Help Desk:
