SOUTHEAST FACULTY AND STUDENTS TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL ENGINEERS WEEK

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Feb. 14, 2003 -Engineering faculty and students at Southeast Missouri State University will celebrate National Engineers Week, Feb. 16-22, with presentations by two speakers.

The first presentation will be by Ruth Hathaway on the topic "New Generation Wastewater Treatment Plants." It will be held at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 18, in Magill Hall, Room 120, on the campus of Southeast. Hathaway is an environmental chemist with Hathaway Consulting in Cape Girardeau, Mo. She received her bachelor of science degree in science, with a major in chemistry, from Huntington College in Huntington, Ind., and did graduate work in medicinal chemistry at Purdue University. She is a member of the American Chemical Society, American Business Women Association, and the Cape Girardeau Area Engineers Club.

The second talk will be by Andrew Meyer, P.E., on the topic "Engineering as a Career Path, or I've Always Wanted to Drive a Train." The talk will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday Feb. 20, in Magill Hall, Room 120. Meyer is a transportation project designer with the Missouri Department of Transportation, District 10, in Sikeston, Mo. He received his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Ill., and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Missouri. Meyer is the current president of the Southeast Missouri Chapter of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers.

The presentations are co-sponsored by the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics and the Cape Girardeau Area Engineers Club.
