'AN EVENING OF JAZZ' PLANNED FOR NOV. 22

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Nov. 18, 2002 -- The Southeast Missouri State University Jazz Program will present "An Evening of Jazz" at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22 in the University Center Ballroom.

The concert will feature both the Southeast Jazz Lab Band and the Studio Jazz Ensemble, both under the direction of Barry Bernhardt, director of University Bands at Southeast.

Selections to be performed by the Southeast Jazz Lab Band include "Who's Sorry Now" with soloists John Moore of Bloomfield, Mo., piano, and Steve Stenzhorn of Affton, Mo., trombone. The band also will perform "Back in the Sack" with soloist Erich Luhmann of Sappington, Mo., on trumpet; "Slave Labor" with Stenzhorn soloing on trombone; and "Spain" with soloists Ryan House of Benton, Ill., trumpet; Stenzhorn, trombone; and Luhmann, trumpet.

The Southeast Studio Jazz Ensemble will perform "Festival" with soloists Bradley Long of Affton, Mo., tenor sax, and Robert Redmond of St. Louis, trumpet; "88 Basie Street" with soloist Ryan Bolinger of Sedgewickville, Mo., piano; "The First Circle" with soloist Bryan Davidson of Wildwood, Mo., guitar; and "Here's That Rainy Day" with soloists Bolinger, piano, and Redmond, trumpet. The Ensemble will close the concert with "Sing, Sang, Sung" with soloists Shelley Layton of St. Louis, soprano saxophone, and Matt Martin of Jackson, Mo., trumpet.

The concert is open to the public. General admission is $6. Tickets for senior citizens are $5, and student tickets are $4. University faculty and student tickets will be admitted free with a University ID. For more information, call (573) 651-2335.
