FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

200 STUDENT MUSICIANS ATTENDING 45TH SOUTHEAST SUMMER MUSIC CAMPS

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., July 9, 2002 - More than 200 elementary and junior high school musicians are attending the 45th Annual Summer Music Camps this week at Southeast Missouri State University.

The Summer Music Camps were the vision of LeRoy Mason, director of bands in 1957. The campus have continued to provide area student musicians with only the finest in music education, offering large and chamber music experiences for band and orchestral students, plus master classes, private lessons, Dixieland and jazz band experiences, and music theory. The camps continue to be among the largest of their kind in the United States.

Two elementary bands and one junior high school band will start working with the staff of the Summer Music Camps today to prepare a public concert on Saturday, July 13. The final concerts for the first week of the Summer Music Camps will be held at 3 p.m. in Academic Auditorium.

The concert is free and open to the public.

For more information, call Barry Bernhardt, director of Southeast Summer Music Camps, at (573) 651-2334.
