FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2002 COMPUTER ART WORKSHOP EXHIBITION TO OPEN IN CAPE PUBLIC LIBRARY

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., July 5, 2002 -- The 2002 Summer Computer Art Workshop offered by the Department of Art at Southeast Missouri State University will present an exhibition of student works at the Hirsch Community Room in the Cape Girardeau Public Library on Clark Street beginning July 8.

The course was offered from June 11 to July 5. The popular summer course included individuals taking computer art for the first time as well as seasoned artists who were building upon already-existing skills. For four weeks, teachers, interdisciplinary majors and art students met and created together in an expanded computer lab in Serena Building, the new home for the Department of Art.

The artwork displayed in the exhibition includes digital prints of various-sized artworks that were created by students during the four-week course. Students explored the use of the vector-based program Adobe Illustrator and raster-image software Adobe Photoshop using Macintosh computers and flat-bed scanners.

The works are unique combinations and manipulations of imagery that were created and gathered by the students using traditional art methods during the first week of the workshop. Students took full advantage of the software capabilities while integrating photographs, textures and drawings with creative license. The instructor, Louise Bodenheimer, associate professor of art/graphic design and illustration, has taught the three credit hour course for four summers.

The exhibit will remain on display in the Cape Girardeau Public Library through July.
