STUDIO JAZZ ENSEMBLE TO PERFORM PRE-JAZZ FESTIVAL APRIL 18

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., April 15, 2002 -- The Studio Jazz Ensemble at Southeast Missouri State University will perform a Pre-Jazz Festival Concert April 18 at Port Cape's River City Yacht Club in Cape Girardeau.

The show will begin at 9 p.m. at this historic downtown club. The cover charge will be $3 per person, and those 18 and older are encouraged to attend.

The program will include the music of Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Bill Watrous, Bobby Shew and others. The Studio Jazz Ensemble will be joined by area jazz musicians on this concert.

The Studio Jazz Ensemble is under the direction of Barry Bernhardt, director of University Bands at Southeast. The band recently performed at the Missouri Music Educators Association Convention as the only University Jazz group to play on the 2001 Convention and has been featured with Clark Terry three times this past year.

The band will be featured again this year at the Clark Terry Jazz Festival in Cape Girardeau on Saturday, April 20 in "An Evening of Jazz" with Jazz Trumpet Legend Clark Terry. The Jazz Festival Evening Concert will be held in Academic Auditorium at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $5 for general admission.
