Susan Swartwout read her poetry Aug. 23, 2016, with other St. Louis Poetry Center prize winners at The Focal Point in Maplewood, Missouri. Four of the other poets read their work that had been published in Southeast's Big Muddy: Journal of the Mississippi River Valley, edited by Swartwout.


Stephanie Chamberlain, Department of English, presented a paper entitled, "Let Me Bring Thee Where Crabs Grow: Early Modern Trade and Dietary Exchange in The Tempest" at the World Shakespeare Congress. This international conference, which is held every five years at various places around the world, was held at Stratford-upon-Avon and London, England, from July 31 Aug. 7 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.
