Computer Recommendations for Incoming Students
 

Students may want to bring an existing computer to campus or purchase a new personal computer. This page details minimum requirements recommended by the IT Department and lists services/resources available to those who have personal computers.

 

If you plan to buy a new computer, we recommend that it meet or exceed the following criteria:

If you already have a computer that you are considering bringing to campus, we recommend that it meet or exceed the following minimum criteria:

NOTE: Some colleges may have specific requirements. Check with your college for details.

 

Services available to students who choose to bring a computer:

  • Direct access to the campus network and Internet for all Resnet (Residential Network) users. Students must supply their own 10/100Base-T Ethernet network adapter and a CAT-5 Ethernet cable

  • Wireless 802.11g access locations can be found here

  • **The University recommends Microsoft Security Essentials which is a free antivirus program that provides real-time protection for your PC and guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.  You can download it for free here

  • ***For Mac's, a good free antivirus program is ClamXav available here. For a recommended paid solution is VirusBarrier/NetBarrier from Intego, available here.
