Suggested Timeline for Summer Candidates for Graduation

Who Wish to Participate in the Preceding Spring Commencement Exercise

Students who will finish all their graduation requirements in the summer semester will graduate in the summer, but may be eligible to participate in spring commencement. Because Southeast does not have a summer commencement ceremony, summer grads are the only students allowed to participate in a commencement prior to their graduation semester.

Students graduating in the summer who wish to participate in the spring commencement exercise need to start preparing now, especially if they are completing internships during the summer.  Below is a time line to help you adequately prepare for your graduation.

  1. October:  Recommend:  locate site for internship, make initial arrangements

  1. November (according to priority enrollment) enroll for all spring courses

  1. Feburary (according to priority enrollment schedule) student enrolls (as soon as possible) for all summer courses, including internships.

  1. February:  Apply for SUMMER graduation.  This can be done in the Registrar’s Office, or by printing an application from the web site, once the student is enrolled in ALL courses (including internships) to complete degree requirements.  Once the student has applied for graduation, an administrative hold will be placed on his/her enrollment.  Student must contact Registrar’s Office prior to attempting any program changes after initial enrollment.  Student will indicate on the graduation application whether they wish to participate in spring commencement.

  1. Based on date of application approval:  Student receives additional paper work to complete.  Failure to complete all above steps and return paper work by deadline (published in the schedule of classes and in the schedule at the top of the Commencement web page) will result in late fees.

  1. May:  Student participates in Spring commencement

  1. August:  grades/transcripts, etc., received, student’s graduation is verified.

  1. September:  student’s diploma is mailed with a complimentary copy of their transcript.

NOTE:  For students who will be transferring summer credits from another school, proof of enrollment is required.  If the transfer school’s summer enrollment schedule does not permit the student to provide proof of enrollment by established deadlines, the student may obtain a letter from the school’s registrar indicating that the required course is offered, and that the student is eligible to attend.  This will temporarily allow the student to be approved as a candidate for graduation.  To remain a candidate, the student must enroll, and provide proof of enrollment as soon as possible.
