Braille Books

American Action Fund www.actionfund.org
This is an organization out of Baltimore, Maryland that offers a free Braille books program.  The program will provide a free Braille book every month from a popular children's reading series.  Complete the application online or write:  American Action Fund for Blind Children and Adults, Free Braille Books Program, 1800 Johnson Street Baltimore, Maryland 21230.

 Braille Institute www.brailleinstitute.org
This is a private, nonprofit organization, which provides education, information, and services.  Families, sign up for the Braille Special Collections, which offers free Braille books for children. 

 Braille International, Inc www.brailleintl.org
Operates a mail-order bookstore for individuals with a visual impairment. Request a free catalog for these reasonably priced Braille books.

 I Can See Books www.marvelsoft.com
This is an online Braille bookstore. 

National Braille Press www.nbp.org
Publication of Braille materials. Take a look at the Braille book club.  This book club offers Braille books to families ranging in cost from $4.95 to 15.96.

This publisher carries a series of children's books which have main characters with disabilities. The book entitled, The Night Search, is about a young girl who is blind.

Seedlings Braille Books for Children www.seedlings.org
They have over 400 books for children in print/Braille formats. 

The Braille Resource and Literacy Center (The BRL Center)
1094 South 350 West, Orem, Utah 84058 phone 801-225-3334.  Offers books for beginning readers in double-spaced, non-interpoint Braille.  Some books are available in Grade 1 and others are available in Grade 2.

This is a noon-profit organization which assists and encourages parental involvement in education.  It distributes newsletters and books.

This is an international advocacy organization for people with severe disabilities.

 Blindskills, Inc.  www.blindskills.com
This organization publishes Dialogue Magazine.  It contains resources and information about blindness. 

 Camp Barnabas www.campbarnabas.com
This is a non-denominational Christian summer camp for children with special needs.  For information call 417-476-2565.

Council for Exceptional Children www.cec.sped.org
This is a large international professional organization for educators in the field of special education. 

American Council of the Blind www.acb.org 
This organization provides support and information for parents of children with visually impairments. The organization publishes a newsletter called the Braille Forum.

Hadley School for the Blind www.hadley-school.org
The Hadley School for the Blind offers distance-learning opportunities.  Correspondence courses are available in Braille and Communication, Technology, Independent Living, Recreation & Leisure, and Parent and Family.

A national organization which provides information and support for families of persons who are deaf-blind.

A consumer and advocacy membership organization of blind individuals.   Oversees National Organization of Parents of Blind Children.

The National Organization for Albinism and Hypopigmentation www.albinism.org
A volunteer organization for persons with Albinism and their families.

National Organization for Rare Disorders, Inc. (NORD) www.rarediseases.org
This organization maintains a database of rare diseases.  A listing of over 1,100 diseases are included. 

National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities (NICHCY)   www.nichcy.org 
This contains a clearinghouse for information about disabled children and youth to age 22.

National Organization of Parents of Blind Children www.nfb.org/nopbc.htm
This is a national membership organization of parents and friends of blind children.  They provide support, and information.  They offer a Braille pen-pal service and the Braille Readers are Leaders contest. 

PACER Parent Advocacy Coalition for Educational Rights  www.pacer.org
This organization offers individual help for parents of children and young adults with disabilities. 

The Preemie Place www.thepreemieplace.org 
This is a organization which provides support, and information for parents, families and friends of preemie babies.

 USABA United States Association of Blind Athletes www.usaba.org
This organization provides coaching and training for individuals who are visually impaired in 9 different sports.  In the year 2000, Marla Runyan a USABA athlete qualified for a U.S. Olympic Team.

Rehabilitation Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired www.dss.state.mo.us/dfs/rehab/rehab.htm
This is an agency that provides services to people with varying degrees of visual impairment.  Services are provided through vocational rehabilitation, and children's or transition services.
